溶岩石に苔を着生させてみた！貼りゴケ・撒きゴケ2作品への挑戦

今回は、溶岩石に苔を着生させるという野望のもと、
「貼りゴケ法」と「撒きゴケ法」に挑戦していきます。
This time, driven by the dream of growing moss on lava rock, I’m taking on both the “Harigoke method” (pressing moss onto rock) and the “Makigoke method” (scattering moss pieces).

ちょうど手元にヒノキゴケとタマゴケがあったので、さっそく真似して作ってみました。
I happened to have some Hinoki-goke and Tamago-ke on hand, so I gave it a try right away.

使う溶岩石と苔の準備

Preparing the Lava Rock and Moss

今回使う溶岩石はこちら。
Here’s the lava rock I’ll be using this time.

作業前にしっかり水を含ませて準備完了です。
Soaked it thoroughly with water before starting — all ready to go.

今回の苔素材：ヒノキゴケとタマゴケ

The Moss Materials This Time: Hinoki-goke and Tamago-ke

……素材、少なっ！と思うかもしれませんが、これで十分らしいです。（笑）
You might be thinking “that’s not much!” — but apparently it’s plenty. (lol)

ヒノキゴケは1本づつバラシて、汚れや土を水で丁寧に洗います。
Separate the Hinoki-goke one stem at a time, then gently rinse off any dirt or soil with water.

見た目きれいでも、意外と土ついてます（笑）
Even when it looks clean, there’s surprisingly a lot of dirt on it. (lol)

使用する部分は茎？仮根？の部分。
ハサミで１本づつカットしていきます。
The part you use is the stem — or maybe the rhizoid? Cut them one by one with scissors.

ヒノキゴケは貼りゴケ法——1本ずつ丁寧に並べる

Hinoki-goke Gets the Harigoke Treatment — Carefully Laid Out One by One

溶岩石の上に１本づつ重ならないように寝かせて配置。
Lay each stem flat on the lava rock, making sure they don’t overlap.

この中間部分から新芽が出てくるそうです。
苔界の生命力、なかなかすごい。
Apparently new shoots grow from the middle section. The vitality of moss is really something.

最後にヘアゴムでしっかり固定！
Finally, secure everything tightly with a hair tie!

これでヒノキゴケのセッティング完了です。
……簡単すぎん？（笑）
And that’s the Hinoki-goke all set up. …Almost too easy, right? (lol)

タマゴケは撒きゴケ法——細かくカットして散りばめる

Tamago-ke Gets the Makigoke Treatment — Finely Chopped and Scattered

続いて、タマゴケ
こちらは約 3㎜ほどに細かくカットします。
Next up: Tamago-ke. Cut this one into fine pieces about 3mm each.

使うのは緑の部分だけ。
Only the green parts are used.

カットしたタマゴケを1つずつ溶岩石の上に散りばめるように置いていきます。
Place the cut pieces of Tamago-ke one by one, scattering them across the lava rock.

撒きゴケなのに、手で置いてる（笑）
It’s called the “scattering” method, but I’m placing each piece by hand. (lol)

でも、気持ちは撒いてます。
But in my heart, I’m totally scattering them.

1作品目完成！撒きゴケでタマゴケを仕上げる

First Piece Complete! Finishing Up with Tamago-ke and the Makigoke Method

これで1作品目完成！
And that’s the first piece done!

参考動画では3か月後にはゴムも外せて苔も芽吹いていました。
うちの子たちはどうなるのか・・・
In the reference video, after 3 months the rubber band came off and the moss had sprouted. I wonder what mine will look like…

経過観察スタートです。
The observation period begins!

2作品目：ネズミノオゴケとホウオウゴケで挑戦

Second Piece: Taking on the Challenge with Nezuminoo-goke and Houou-goke

せっかくなので、もう1作品いきます。
Since I’m at it, let’s make a second piece!

次はネズミノオゴケとホウオウゴケの2種類で、溶岩石に撒きゴケしていきます。
This time, I’ll use two types — Nezuminoo-goke and Houou-goke — for the makigoke method on lava rock.

今回の溶岩石はこちら。
Here’s the lava rock for this piece.

地味にこれ、形選びがむずかしいです。
「なんか違うな…」を10個くらい繰り返します。（笑）
Picking the right shape is actually harder than it sounds. I went through about 10 rocks going “hmm, not quite…” (lol)

まず、ネズミノオゴケを細かくカット。
First, finely chop the Nezuminoo-goke.

地味な作業ですが、こういう無心タイムがけっこう好きです（笑）
It’s a pretty tedious task, but I actually enjoy this kind of mindless focus time. (lol)

中央辺りに配置してみました。
I placed it around the center of the rock.

上手いこと増えてくれたらうれしい。
I’d be so happy if it spreads and grows nicely.

次は、ホウオウゴケも同じようにカット。
Next, cut the Houou-goke the same way.

ホウオウゴケも種類が多いらしく、今回のものは小型タイプっぽいです。
Apparently there are many varieties of Houou-goke — this one looks like the small type.

横へ広がる性質がありそうなので、溶岩石の縁に添わせるように配置しました。
Since it tends to spread sideways, I placed it along the edges of the lava rock.

こんな感じで2作目完成です。
And just like that, the second piece is done!

まとめ——3か月後の経過報告、お楽しみに！

今回は、溶岩石に苔を着生させる実験回となりました。
随時、育成報告していきますね！
This time it was an experimental session — attaching moss to lava rock. I’ll keep you updated on how they grow!

前述通り、結果が出るまで3か月。
苔の成長スピードはかなりゆっくりめです。
As mentioned, it takes about 3 months to see results. Moss grows at quite a leisurely pace.

でも、その”ゆっくり”を見るのがまた面白いんですよね。
But watching that slow growth is actually what makes it so interesting.

3か月後、苔が大成功してるかもしれません。
失敗してるかもしれません。
でも石だけは裏切りません。
また報告します（笑）
In 3 months, the moss might be a huge success. Or it might have failed completely. But at least the rocks won’t let me down. Stay tuned! (lol)
