今日も近所の山へ、苔調査に行ってきました。
本日の日付は４月１９日。天気は曇りです。
４月とは思えないほど蒸し暑く、森の中は十分すぎるほどの湿気。
一歩足を踏み入れるだけで、空気の重たさが伝わってきます。
I went out for another moss survey in the mountains near my home. Today is April 19th — cloudy skies. It felt surprisingly hot and humid for April, with the forest holding more than enough moisture. The moment I stepped inside, I could feel the heavy air all around me.
道中でいきなり発見！側溝のホソウリゴケ
An Unexpected Find on the Way! Hosourigoke in the Drainage Ditch
山へ向かう道中さっそくきれいな「ホソウリゴケ」を発見。
なんと場所は側溝の底（笑）
水が溜まっているわけではなく、程よく湿気がたもたれているのでしょう。
鮮やかな黄緑色がとても印象的でした。
On the way to the mountain, I spotted some beautiful Hosouri-goke right away — growing at the bottom of a drainage ditch, of all places! Not flooded, just perfectly moist. The vivid yellow-green color was really striking.
山の入り口へ——竹林の中を進む
Entering the Mountain — Walking Through the Bamboo Forest
山の入り口に到着。
竹が折れたのか、切られたのか、あちこち無造作に倒れています。
以前なら驚いていた景色ですが、今ではすっかり見慣れた光景。
気にせずそのまま山の中へ進みます。
I arrived at the mountain entrance. Bamboo had fallen here and there — broken, cut, scattered around. A scene that would have surprised me before, but now feels completely familiar. I pressed on into the forest without a second thought.
石垣と倒木に広がる苔の絶景
Magnificent Moss Views on Stone Walls and Fallen Logs
山道の横には小さな川が流れ、その脇には石垣の壁。
その石垣一面に苔が広がり、まるで緑色のパウダーを振りかけたような美しさです。
Along the mountain path runs a small stream, and beside it stands a stone wall — completely blanketed in moss. It looks as if someone had dusted the whole surface with fine green powder. Just beautiful.
さらに、川をまたぐように倒れた倒木もそのまま残されています。
なんとも言えない自然の雰囲気があり、見ていてワクワクしますね。
A fallen log stretches across the stream, left exactly where it landed. There’s something wonderfully wild about it — just looking at it fills me with excitement.
さぁ、どんどん山の奥へ進んでいきましょう。

倒木に着生した苔たち——種類がわからない！
Moss on Fallen Logs — I Can’t Figure Out the Species!
切り倒され、そのまま放置された倒木には、見栄えよく苔が着生していました。
On a felled log left to rest where it fell, moss had taken hold in a beautifully arranged carpet.
よく見かける苔なのですが、種類までは判別できません。
「これじゃない？」と思われる方がいれば、ぜひコメントで教えてください。
I see this type of moss often, but I can’t quite identify the species. If you think you know what it is, please let me know in the comments!
ホウオウゴケ・ハイゴケ・桜との競演
Houou-goke, Haigoke, and Cherry Blossoms — a Beautiful Collaboration
こちらには「ホウオウゴケ」がまとまって着生していました。
黄緑色がとても鮮やかで、見ているだけで癒されます。
Here, a cluster of Houou-goke had settled in nicely. The vibrant yellow-green color is just so soothing to look at.
続いて、岩の上に着生している苔も発見。
見た感じは「ホソバオキナゴケ」に見えるのですが、岩の上という環境を考えると、「カモジゴケ」のような気もします。
Next, I found moss growing on a rock. It looks like Hosobaokinagoke to me, but given that it’s on a rock, it could also be Kamojigoke. Hard to say!
苔は、湿気を含んだ姿と乾燥した姿でまるで別物に見えることもありますし、最終的には顕微鏡で見なければ判別できない種類も多く、なかなか奥が深い世界ですね。
Moss can look completely different when wet versus when dry, and many species can only be truly identified under a microscope. It really is a deep rabbit hole once you start!
こちらは倒木の上に着生した「ハイゴケ」の一種でしょうか。
桜の花びらとのコラボレーションがとてもきれいでした。
This one on the fallen log looks like a type of Haigoke. The cherry blossom petals scattered among it made for such a lovely combination.
山から流れてくる水が倒木を濡らし、その上に苔が広がる光景。
まさに苔たちの楽園のように見えます。
Water flowing down from the mountain keeps this fallen log damp, and moss has spread across its entire surface. It looks just like a paradise for moss.
この山で初めて！ホソバオキナゴケを発見
A Mountain First! Discovering Hosobaokinagoke
ここで、この山では初めて見つけました。
「ホソバオキナゴケ」が土の上に着生しているのを確認。
And here — a first for this mountain! I spotted Hosobaokinagoke growing directly on the soil.
この山はほとんど竹林なので、ホソバオキナゴケは生えていないと思っていただけに、ちょっと嬉しい発見です。
思わずなでてしまいました（笑）
触り心地も最高です。
Since this mountain is mostly bamboo forest, I never expected to find Hosobaokinagoke here — so this was a delightful surprise! I couldn’t help but give it a gentle touch. The texture is absolutely wonderful.
……と、思った矢先。
もう少し奥へ踏み入ると、なんとあちこちに生えていました。
「ホソバオキナゴケ」、普通におるやん（笑）
…and then, just a little further in — it was growing everywhere! Turns out Hosobaokinagoke is totally at home here. Who knew! (lol)

やはり、もっと森の奥へ入っていけば、まだまだ新しい出会いがありそうですね。
As expected, the deeper you go into the forest, the more new discoveries await.
倒木の上に広がる鮮やかな苔。
胞子体も伸びていて、この場所で元気に暮らしているのが伝わってきます。
Vivid moss spreading across a fallen log, sporophytes stretching upward. You can really feel how happily it’s thriving in this spot.

土の上に丸く群生した苔。
湿気をしっかり含んでいて、とても元気そうに見えました。
A round colony of moss growing on the soil, plump with moisture and looking very healthy.
「クサゴケ」かなぁ？
Could this be Kusagoke?
社へ続く小さなコンクリート道。
端のほうからじわじわと苔が広がり、自然のたくましさを感じました。
A small concrete path leading to the shrine. Moss has been slowly creeping in from the edges — a reminder of nature’s quiet persistence.
人が作ったコンクリートの道も、時が経てば自然の色に染まっていく。
苔の力強さを感じる風景です。
Even a man-made concrete path, given enough time, takes on the color of nature. A landscape that speaks to the power of moss.
川沿いの苔ワールド——水辺が育む美しい緑
Moss World Along the Stream — The Beauty of Waterside Greenery
水音に耳を澄ませたくなる景色。
濡れた岩に広がる苔が、いっそう鮮やかに見えます。
A scene that makes you want to stop and listen to the water. The moss spread across the wet rocks looks even more vivid in the moisture.
小川の壁面に、まとまって着生していたホウオウゴケ。
しっとりと垂れ下がる姿が、とても美しく見えました。
Houou-goke clustered together on the wall of the stream. Its gently drooping, dewy form was just beautiful.
土と岩の壁が、いつのまにか苔のキャンバスに。
自然が描く緑の景色に見入ってしまいます。
A wall of earth and rock, quietly transformed into a canvas of moss. I found myself lost in the green scenery nature had painted.
クヌギの木と古木——木々にも苔は宿る
Oak Trees and Ancient Trunks — Moss Calls the Trees Home Too
山道に立つクヌギの木を見上げると、日光の当たりにくい面に苔がモフモフと着生していました。
同じ木でも環境によって姿が変わるのが面白いですね。
Looking up at an oak tree along the path, I noticed thick, fluffy moss covering the shadier side of the trunk. It’s fascinating how even the same tree can look so different depending on its environment.
古木のうろを囲むように、ふんわりと苔が広がっていました。
傷跡さえ景色に変えてしまう、自然の力を感じます。
Soft moss had spread around the hollow of an old tree, wrapping it gently. Even scars become scenery — nature has a way of turning everything beautiful.
タケノコとタチコケ——春の共演
Bamboo Shoots and Tachigoke — A Spring Duet
芽吹いたタケノコの根元には、鮮やかなタチコケ。
新しい命と小さな緑が並ぶ、春らしい景色です。
At the base of a freshly sprouted bamboo shoot, a vivid patch of Tachigoke. New life and tiny green moss side by side — a perfectly spring scene.
こちらは腰の高さまで伸びた立派なタケノコ。
竹林の中でぐんぐん育つ姿に、自然の勢いを感じました。
And here’s a bamboo shoot that’s already grown waist-high! Watching it shoot up through the bamboo forest, I felt the raw energy of nature at work.
まとめ：苔も竹も、春の山は生命力にあふれてる！

今回の山歩きでは、苔たちの静かな世界だけでなく、春らしいタケノコの成長にも出会えました。
小さな苔も、大きく伸びる竹も、それぞれの形で季節を教えてくれますね。
