Today, I have something I need to come clean about.
このブログでは、山へ苔調査に行った際に、
In this blog, when I go out on moss surveys in the mountains,
「これは○○ゴケですね！」
「こちらは△△ゴケでしょう！」
“This one is ○○-goke!” / “And this one must be △△-goke!”
などと、それっぽく紹介していることがあります。
…I sometimes introduce mosses like I know exactly what they are.
……が。
…But.
正直に申し上げます。
Let me be honest with you.
私、山にいる時点では90％くらい名前わかってません（笑）
When I’m actually out in the mountains, I have no idea what about 90% of them are called. (lol)
その場では、
In the moment, all I’m thinking is:
「おぉ…緑や…」
「なんかモフモフしてる…」
「これは強そうやな…」
“Whoa… it’s green…” / “It’s kinda fluffy…” / “This one looks tough…”
くらいの情報量です。
That’s about the extent of my on-site knowledge.
帰ってから真剣に調べてます——でも奥が深い
I Research Seriously When I Get Home — But Moss is Deep
家に帰ってから、撮った写真をGoogleフォトへ取り込み、
図鑑を見たり、Googleレンズ先生に聞いたり、
ネットで検索したりしながら、かなり真剣に調べています。
Back home, I import all my photos into Google Photos, then consult field guides, ask Google Lens, and search the internet — all quite seriously, I might add.
でも、苔の世界は奥が深い。
But the world of moss is incredibly deep.
似てる種類も多い。
小さい。
角度で変わる。
湿り具合でも印象変わる。
そして私の知識はまだまだ浅い。
So many species look alike. They’re tiny. They look different from different angles. Their appearance changes depending on how wet they are. And my knowledge still has a long way to go.
つまり――
In other words——
間違ってる可能性、十分あります。
There’s a very real chance some of my identifications are wrong.
